Billy Blanks

Billy  Blanks is a well known fitness guru, martial artist, actor, and the inventor of the Tae Bo exercise program.
Blanks developed the Tae Bo workout, while running a karate studio in his home town of Quincy, Massachusetts. He used components of both his martial arts and boxing training. The name is a mix-and-match of tae kwon do and boxing.

Blanks opened a fitness center in Los Angeles to teach his new workout. He later attracted some celebrity clients such as Paula Abdul and the popularity of the workout quickly grew, becoming a pop culture phenomenon.
You may wonder how thorough of an exercise can you get by walking, kicking, and punching in front of your TV. Well, you'd be surprised to know that it actually works extremely well. Tae Bo (and its many incarnations) is a great workout that is kept interesting and challenging by combining side steps, knee raises, kick backs, and front kicks to work different muscles and get your heart pumping and your energy up.

Tae Bo includes many of the same punches, twists, and kicks as karate, but is not intended for combat—it was not meant for any fighting or self-defense applications. There are no throws, grappling moves, or ground fighting techniques in Tae Bo. Its only intent is to increase strength and cardio through intense movement. Tae Bo also includes aerobic exercises intended to strengthen all muscles of the body with simple choreography. The high-intensity workout is meant to increase heart health, strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. Because of the movements it involves, Tae Bo is effective in improving one's balance, flexibility, coordination and has cardiovascular benefits.

 Perhaps the most appealing aspect about Tae Bo is its proven calorie burning effectiveness. An hour long Tae Bo workout will burn 500 to 800 calories, compared with the 300 to 400 calories burned with a more conventional aerobics class.  If combined with a healthy, calorie controlled diet, the burned calories should translate into weight loss.
